“Sin is the missing of a target, a wandering from the path, a straying from the fold. Sin is a hard heart and a stiff neck. Sin is blindness and deafness. It is both the overstepping of a line and a failure to reach it – both transgression and shortcoming… sin is never normal. Sin is disruption of created harmony and then resistance to divine restoration of that harmony.” – Cornelius Plantinga Jr.
Sin is essentially missing the mark; in the original Biblical languages it is an archery term. It doesn’t matter if we miss the target by a little or a lot – a miss is a miss. Sin disrupts our harmony and wholeness – it disrupts our relationship with God. We are all sinners that fall short of Gods glory (Rom 3:23) however we can focus the aim of our lives by the Word of God. It is the Word of God that helps us hit the target day after day, and it is His forgiveness and grace that overcomes our sin.
What are you leaning on to guide your aim in life? Is it Gods Word, is it the world? Do you ever feel like your missing over and over and over? There’s hope and good news:
1) We all miss the mark at times – you are not alone.
2) Jesus is a generous Savior whose grace is far greater than any sin. If you come to Him, He will forgive you and restore you.
3) God left us His Word to guide us each and everyday. It help us focus our aim and hit the mark. It guides us to a life of holiness and happiness.
Confess your sins and He is faithful to forgive, read the Bible and He is faithful to transform your life into something better than you even know was possible!
