This is a simple yet effective way to incorporate journaling and critical thinking into your daily quiet time. This method helped me so much when I first started studying the Bible.
Read the Bible and write down the verse you read. Did any in particular stand out to you? Note that Scripture.
What did you observe about the verses you just read? What do you think the author is saying? Did you notice any instruction, questions, or comparisons in the verses? Are there any words, people, or places that you want to research further?
How can you apply the verses you just read to your life today? Every scripture has an original meaning for the original audience but it also has applications for our lives today. How can you live out the truth you just read, how will it impact your daily life?
What is your prayer after reading these verses? Did the verses point out anything you are struggling with personally? Did it reveal a sin you need to confess? Did it teach you a truth you didn’t know before or that you want to learn more about. Write out your prayer. Ask God to reveal His truth to you from the passage and show you how to live it out!
